Position Web Developer PHP
Position Overview
The primary job function of the PHP Web Developer
is to build and maintain our client’s websites. The
web developer is responsible for the design, coding
and functionality of all our sites, with the aim of
providing an excellent user experience, maximizing
revenue and conversions, and improving efficiency.
The Web Developer is responsible for building new
websites from concept to completion from the
bottom up, fashioning everything from the home
page to site architecture and functionality in line
with specified business objectives. The Web
Developer is responsible for maintaining and
updating existing sites, helping to improve
functionality, usability and the customer’s on site
experience.
The Web Developer will be responsible for the
development of highly scalable, high performance,
custom applications for a web environment (mostly
WordPress / Joomla / Drupal – i.e., plugins,
themes). It is the responsibility of the Web
Developer to manage, debug, and document all jobs
from start to finish. The Web Developer will be
responsible for identifying areas of the existing
sites that can be improved, and the implementation
of these changes. The Web Developer will work with
the Head of Marketing and other colleagues to
develop project schedules for each project
undertaken, and will be responsible for adhering to
these deadlines.
Primary Responsibilities of the Web Developer role
include:
• Technically own and improve current client’s
websites.
• Ensure that the backend and front end code are
of the highest quality and follow best practices.
• Develop custom applications for a WordPress /
Joomla / Drupal environment
• Design and build new websites working in
conjunction with other key stakeholders
• Maintain and optimize existing websites along
with the Digital Marketing Manager (in relation to
SEO, Google tools etc.)
• Manage, debug, extend & document jobs from
start to finish
• Redevelop, extend, and/or enhance existing code
• Responsible for maintaining, expanding and
scaling our websites
• Identify areas that can be automated/improved
and turn that into functionality from start to finish
• Continually improving skill sets to stay on the
cutting edge of web development
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The Web Developer must have an excellent
knowledge of programming and best practices in
web development. He or she must have had
experience working on complex content heavy
websites and be an organized and outgoing team-
player ready to develop and implement strategies
for multiple websites at once across a diverse
range of topics.
• At least 2 years PHP development experience both
back-end and front-end.
• At least 1 years custom development/plugin
development for WordPress / Joomla / Drupal sites
• WordPress / Joomla / Drupal plugin / modules
development
• WordPress / Joomla / Drupal template
development
• jQuery/JSON/AJAX
• PHP (OO)
• MYSQL
• GIT with Capistrano
